Life in Geordieland

Background

There’s always something going on in my adopted home of Newcastle upon Tyne. I have a bit of a reputation for making the most of what this vibrant city has to offer. As a result, friends and family would often ask me for recommendations for places to go and things to do. They knew I would be full of helpful advice! This led to me having a regular feature titled ‘Rachel Recommends’ on the a blog called The Backpacker Herald. It was fun but after a while I decided to go for it and create a blog all of my own.

Life in Geordieland was born in 2013 as a place to share my experiences of living, working and socialising in North East England. My aim was to inspire locals to get out there and enjoy what’s on their doorstep, as well as being a valuable resource for tourists visiting the region.

Going From Strength to Strength

The blog quickly gathered an army of regular readers, as well as opportunities to collaborate with other content creators and local businesses. I attracted the interest of several high profile influencers who invited me to write about Newcastle on their websites. See The Travel Hack, The Luxury Editor and The Urban Travel Blog for examples.

The tourist board, NewcastleGateshead Initiative, has been a huge supporter of Life in Geordieland from day one. For several years I wrote a regular column for newcastlegateshead.com that revealed monthly highlights from Life in Geordieland. The team at NGI know that I am an a passionate ambassador for local tourism and often call upon me to get involved in their marketing campaigns.

Accolades

I am proud to say that I won the award for Best Travel Blog at the inaugural North East Blogger Awards in November 2014. I was also a finalist for Blogger of the Year in 2015. Life in Geordieland regularly features in the blogger charts ‘Hibs100’ and ‘Trips100’. My influence on Twitter has resulted in me being named in The Journal’s ‘North East Twitterati’ two years in a row!

Life in Geordieland is currently undergoing a makeover and I will be sharing its brand new look in the News section in the near future!
